MTB News: Already at the Rothaus Bike Giro last month, youngster David List (Lexware Mountainbike Team) showed by winning the first stage that he can also get involved with the pros of the marathon scene. At the weekend, the only 20-year-old did well again by winning the German Championship Marathon 2020 in Leukershausen. The German cross-country champion Max Brandl was stopped by two punctures on the penultimate descent.
Three laps of 25 kilometers each and a total of 2250 meters in altitude had to be mastered by the participants as part of the German Championship Marathon 2020 in Leukershausen (Odenwald). Together with his teammates Maximilian Brandl, Georg Egger and Luca Schwarzbauer from the Lexware Mountainbike Team, David List was able to position himself in the leading group right from the start. Various drivers tried again and again to decimate the group by speeding up. Shortly before the last climb, the decisive phase began. Martin Frey from Team Bulls tore a gap, which, however, was closed again by the pursuers led by Luca Schwarzbauer.
However, Luca Schwarzbauer had to fight hard on the following climb, but noticed that his young teammate David List could keep up. This set the race-decisive attack at the end of the climb when he passed Ben Zwiehoff (Centurion Vaude) and Simon Schneller (Bulls). Being the first to hit the trail, the youngster took advantage of the leader and finally won with a time of 2:46:55. Schwarzbauer was initially in third place trying to keep a gap ahead of List. Neither Markus Kaufmann (Texpa Simplon) nor Ben Zwiehoff attacked him, whereupon Schwarzbauer started to sprint himself and then overtook Simon Schneller, who was in front of him. The German cross-country champion Max Brandl, on the other hand, had to admit defeat two punctures in the penultimate descent.
