Cycling: With his victory on the third stage of the Tour de l'Ain, Primoz Roglic also made the overall victory perfect. The Slovenian once again completed the excellent team performance of Jumbo - Visma. While Egan Bernal drove at the limit and was relegated to second place, Primoz Roglic seemed to be dominating easily.
Decision on the Grand Colombier
Although the Ain Tower is only three stages long, it gave us a foretaste of the Tour de France yesterday. Jumbo - Visma vs Ineos it was - and that's how it should be today. The king's stage led the pros over 144,5 kilometers from Saint-Vulbas up to the Grand Colombier. This means that the last section of the tour is also the king's stage. Because on the way to the prestigious final ascent, the Montée de la Selle and the well-known Col de la Biche also had to be conquered. No wonder the escapees didn't really get their chance to win the stage today either. After initially the team Jumbo - Visma for the overall leader Primois Roglic controlled the pace in the peloton, the men from Ineos then took over the 17-kilometer final climb with an average gradient of 7 percent.
Again Jumbo - Visma against Ineos
As expected, there was a duel between Jumbo - Visma and Ineos today. When there were only about 15 men left in the middle of the Grand Colombier, 4 wore yellow and black and 3 wore black and red. With 7,0 kilometers to go, however, it was clear that the big battle between the two top teams would at least go to the Dutchmen today. Because while with Chris Froome and Jonathan Castroviejo the last two Ineos helpers from Egan Bernal had to be torn after the work was done, Leader had Primois Roglic with Tom Dumoulin, Steven Kruijswijk and George Bennett three more men with him.
Roglic humiliates Bernal
2,8 kilometers from the finish Richie porte (Trek – Segafredo) on the offensive. Although the Australian couldn't break away, this attack was decisive. Because he was the starting signal for the big battle of the top favorites. With Steven Kruijswijk and Tom Dumoulin two helpers of the overall leader burst away. Also Daniel Martin (Israel Start-Up Nation) could not follow and even tour winner Egan Bernal had problems. This took Primois Roglic as an opportunity to fall back to the Colombian at the end of the group and demonstratively look him in the eye. But suddenly Bernal attacked, who had previously left a rather weak impression on the entire climb. Roglic easily called and even went one better. The Slovene thus secured not only the overall victory but also the day's victory. And between Jumbo - Visma and Ineos the fight of the gladiators has finally broken out...
