Cycling transfers: Primoz Roglic moves to Bora – hansgrohe

6 October 2023 by Michael Behringer

Roglic Bora hansgrohe

Cycling Transfers: Now it's official. Primoz Roglic will drive for Bora – Hansgrohe next season. The German racing team announced this in a press conference today.

Roglic leaves Jumbo – Visma

There have been rumors about a possible change for weeks now Cousin Roglic. Now the rumors have become certainty. The Slovenian will compete for the German team Bora – hansgrohe from the 2024 season. This was announced at a press conference by team boss Ralph Denk this Friday morning.

Ralph Denk:
“There have been a lot of rumors about Primoz Roglic in the last few days. At first we didn't play a role, then more and more. And ultimately, we are the ones who signed him up."

Bora – hansgrohe is supporting the deal with equity

This will be Primois Roglic – who will be 34 years old at the end of October – will now end up at Bora – hansgrohe. When the Slovenian moved from Adria Mobil to the LottoNL – Jumbo team in 2016, Ralph Denk was already interested in him. At that time they met in a beer garden near Salzburg to discuss a possible transfer. But Roglic chose the Dutch team. With her he won, among other things, the Vuelta a Espana and the Giro d'Italia over the course of his career. However, he has not yet been able to fulfill his big dream – winning the Tour de France.

Ralph Denk:
“Thanks to the trusting cooperation with Bora, hansgrohe and Specialized, we managed well economically. We can manage this from our own resources and it was not necessary for any sponsor to increase it. We financed the deal from reserves and equity.”

Is trainer Marc Lamberts coming too?

Besides Primois Roglic From Bora - Hansgrohe's point of view, no further driver from the Jumbo - Visma team should be signed. However, it is possible that the Slovenian's coach, Marc Lamberts, will follow his protégé to Germany. It is clear that Roglic can look forward to the sole captaincy role at the major national tours. While at Jumbo - Visma he has had to share this more and more with drivers from his own ranks in recent years, at Bora - hansgrohe the focus will be entirely on him. Since the route profiles of the Giro d'Italia, the Tour de France and the Vuelta a Espana have not yet been announced, it was not possible Ralph Denk do not yet provide any more precise information about the goals. However, it can be assumed that Primoz Roglic still wants to fulfill his dream of winning the Tour.

Primoz Roglic:
“I'm looking forward to this step, even though a team change is something new for me. The good memories of when we met eight years ago made the conversations easy. The decisive factor was that the team was really motivated to work with me and we had the same ideas.”
