Cycling: Remco Evenepoel gets a lot of advance praise - and he deserves it. Today the 20-year-old Belgian confidently won the mountain finish at the Vuelta a Burgos, leaving the best climbers behind.
Großschartner loses the overall lead
The fun of cycling races - we could clearly see that today in the pros at the Vuelta a Burgos. For some, however, the third stage over 150,0 kilometers from Sargentes de la Lora to the Picón Blanco was a severe sporting defeat. Even before the mountain, the peloton split into several parts. Among other things, some professionals from Bora - hansgohe and Ineos were able to break away on the edge of the wind. But this surprising advance was soon neutralized. Arriving at the final climb, Mitchelton - Scott presented himself dominant. With four riders at the front, they reduced the first peloton to around 15 riders. was driven for Esteban Chaves, who also tried an attack about 2,0 kilometers from the finish line. But the Colombian couldn't break free. At that point in time, he was no longer at the front Felix Grossschartner (Bora – hansgrohe). The Austrian should lose the leader's jersey today.
Evenepoel climbs to triumph
The day also ended tragically in sporting terms Roger Adria (Kern Pharma). The Spaniard leads the race for a long time on the final climb and at the beginning even looked like the breakaway who could make it to the top as a soloist. But it shouldn't be enough. After the attack of Stephen Chaves he was caught up by the favourites. Then attacked Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck - Quick Step). The 20-year-old Belgian left his companions standing and couldn't catch up. Behind struggled George Bennett (Jumbo – Visma) before Mikel Landa (Bahrain – McLaren) and Stephen Chaves in second place. With that, Youngster takes over Remco Evenepoel of course also the overall leadership. He has also shown the entire cycling world once again that he is rightly called the talent of the century.
