Vuelta a Burgos #5: Sosa with stage success, Evenepoel celebrates overall victory

Cycling: Ivan Sosa has won the fifth and final stage of the Vuelta a Burgos. The Colombian was able to prevail over Mikel Landa on the mountain finish. With third place, Remco Evenepoel could not be denied the overall victory.

Decision at the Vuelta a Burgos! The fifth and final stage of the short tour of Spain should come to an end today. The 158,0 kilometer section from Covarrubias to Lagunas de Neila ended on the Alto del Collado. At first, a five-man escape group dominated the action. Arjen Livyns (Bingoal WB), Delio Fernandez Cruz (Nippo-Delko-Provence), Gozon Martin (Foundation – Orbea), Angel Madrazo (Burgos – BH), Joel Nicolau (Caja Rural – Seguros RGA) and Daniel Navarro (Israel Start-Up Nation) temporarily had a lead of more than four minutes. Due to the tracking work of several teams, the last of them was caught 10,5 kilometers from the finish.

As the steep part of the final climb began, went Mikel Landa (Bahrain – McLaren) immediately on the offensive. Behind them, the former main field fell apart completely. Everyone was fighting for themselves now. Had to be demolished early on Alejandro Valverde (Movistar). The Spaniard doesn't appear to be in top form at the Vuelta a Burgos. While the latter couldn't keep up the pace for long, the remaining trio fought for the day's success. Attacked shortly after passing the Teufelslappen Ivan Sosa. The Colombian immediately tore a gap and ultimately drove safely towards the stage win. The overall victory could Remco Evenepoel however no one take anymore. The German came in fifth in the daily standings Lennard Kamna (Bora – hansgrohe) back in good form.
