Test: The Fuji Blackhill Evo 27,5 Plus is a powerful E-MTB for riders who value maximum comfort. Thick tyres, plush chassis, comfortable seating position - that fits! However, when the terrain gets challenging and the speed gets high, the bright red bike has to lose a few feathers.

With its bright red frame and eye-catching shape, the Fuji Blackhill Evo 1.3 stands out from our test field in terms of looks alone. The beefy appearance is probably not for everyone, but it will undoubtedly find its fans - especially because the look matches the built-in technology: A 625Wh battery for the Bosch CX motor is in the powerful down tube of the aluminum frame, the large-volume plus tires from Maxxis promise a lot Grip and the distinctive kink in the top tube of the frame accommodates the charging socket.
Convincing Suntour chassis
The impression of a coherent overall package continues in practice. Due to the not too long frame with a high front, you sit more upright than sporty and have a good overview. The suspension components from Suntour already surprise on the first test meters with an incredibly sensitive and sensitive response. If you add the thick tires, which with the right air pressure absorb many small bumps, you get an extremely comfortable overall package.
The performance of the Bosch CX motor, which finds an excellent balance between sensitive response, support power and acceleration when accelerating, is once again completely convincing. Unfortunately, it is clearly audible in the higher support levels - even a little more on the Fuji than on comparable bikes. With so much engine power, the Blackhill Evo is of course also a convincing climber, provided it doesn't get too technical. The geometry is quite unusual: the fairly slack seat tube angle is compensated by very long chainstays, which means that you always sit fairly centrally on the bike and have no problems keeping contact with the ground on the front wheel. However, the long struts are also the reason why tight bends are not necessarily one of the specialties of the Fuji E-MTB.

BMC Trailfox AMP SX two E-MTB on test: Comfortable trail bike with great chassis
Test: With a whopping 170mm of spring travel at the front, the SX variant of the well-known eMTB evergreen from BMC is well prepared for difficult terrain. Bulky handling slows down on the descent
However, the geometry concept doesn't quite work on the descent. The short main frame in relation to the struts makes it difficult to find the right balance and the very high front further emphasizes this relatively bulky, stilted handling. The fact that the Fuji cuts a decent figure overall on the trail is again thanks to the convincing Suntour suspension. Above all, the TriAir damper harmonises perfectly with the rear end and can withstand a tough pace without being stubborn.
No less convincing is the Maxxis tire combination of DHF and DHRII, which offers powerful grip even when the ground conditions are difficult. A thicker carcass might be desirable on the rear wheel to avoid bottoming out. The performance of the TRP brakes was a bit disappointing: Despite the large discs, we had to pull the brake lever much harder than we are used to with other 4-piston brakes.
Also worth mentioning is the installation of the control lever for the variable support, which we do not understand. Although there would be room for a modern thumb lever on the left of the handlebar, Fuji packs an ergonomically less successful variant to the right of the gear lever.
