Testing Ergon SM Enduro Comp Men: New well thought-out saddle for enduro and trail pilots?!

June 16, 2020 by the editorial office

Ergon SM Enduro Comp Men

The Ergon company from Koblenz has set itself the goal of developing and manufacturing a wide variety of products for bikes with the best possible ergonomics. In addition to saddles, the portfolio includes grips, gloves, backpacks, shoe inserts and adjustment aids for the bike. The grips and saddles of the Ergon brand are no longer an insider tip, even well-known bicycle manufacturers use them on their top models. The Ergon SM Enduro Comp Men, which was presented at last year's Eurobike, had to prove itself in the Velomotion test.

Ergon SM Enduro Comp Men

I received the Ergon SM Enduro Comp Men in size M/L for testing. This was presented at the Eurobike last year and is intended to meet the special needs of enduro and downward-oriented trail pilots. The requirements are clearly defined: Maximum comfort when riding uphill and maximum freedom of movement on the downhill stages. For the development of the saddle, Ergon brought none other than mountain bike legend Fabien Barel on board. Ergon and Barel, that definitely promises a lot of know-how. The saddle is available in two sizes (S/M and M/L) and three versions, Standard, Comp and Pro Titanium. The standard version has a price of 79,90 euros, the price of the Pro Titanium is a whopping 179,95 euros. The middle variant with Orthopedic AirCell Foam and a very casual oilslick-optic frame costs 99,95 euros.

The Ergon SM Enduro Comp on the trail

The saddle still felt a bit unfamiliar on the first ride. The recess for the male perineal area is unusually wide. However, after a short period of getting used to it, you will find the saddle to be very comfortable. Even during longer pedaling passages you sit very comfortably, there is no numbness or unpleasant pressure on the perineal area. Downhill, the seat is pleasantly unobtrusive. The flat and narrow design ensures maximum freedom of movement on the bike. The flanks are pulled far down and ensure optimal control of the bike. The hole in the center of the relief channel is designed to drain mud and water in wet conditions.

Conclusion

All riders who are looking for a saddle that enables long tours with a comfortable seat and does not get in the way on downhill sections are well advised to go with the Ergon SM Enduro.

+ Unobtrusively downhill

+ No numbness in the abdomen
