Test: Mountain bike hardtail with sporty ambitions: Dynamics Gravity 29

30 April 2020 by Caspar Gebel

Test Dynamics Gravity 29: The inexpensive hardtail from Dynamics, the own brand of the Stadler two-wheel center, is aimed at off-road beginners as well as everyday cyclists who are looking for a robust and versatile bike for a wide range of applications.

Mountain bikes are no longer just sports equipment for ambitious off-road tours. Everyday and occasional riders also appreciate the robust, versatile bikes with which you can do a lot. A model like the Dynamics Gravity 29, which is offered by the two-wheeler center Stadler with an attractive price advantage for 598 euros, is tailored precisely to this target group.

Many qualities at a low price

Of course you can't expect a super-light high-end bike for this sum, but the Gravity 29 has other qualities. First of all, it offers a complement that you can expect from an MTB: The Suntour fork immediately catches the eye, which offers a lot of reserves with 100 mm of spring travel and – not common in this price range – is blocked by a remote lever from the handlebars can be. Hydraulic disc brakes ensure strong, reliable deceleration with little operating effort, and the 27-speed gear system with a wide range of sprocket cassettes is prepared for all eventualities.

Clear cockpit with brake and shift lever and lockout for the suspension fork
Reliable Shimano Deore circuit with 3 x 9 gears
Hydraulic Tektro disc brakes for reliable stops.

As a "Twentyniner", the Gravity is equipped with 28-inch wheels on which large-volume tires are mounted. This ensures optimal traction and high damping comfort off-road, and the large wheels roll over obstacles better. Together with the grippy tire profile, this ensures a high level of driving safety, so that even beginners don't have to leave their comfort zone on trails with roots, gullies and stones.

The Gravity 29 can be used universally for many areas of application

And the 28er wheels have another advantage, which leads to another possible use of the Dynamics Gravity 29: In this size, road, touring and cross tires are available in countless variants and price ranges, with which the bike can be perfectly tailored to the respective purpose . A big advantage of the bike is its versatility: a luggage rack can be mounted as well as a mudguard at the rear, and this is usually also possible on the fork without any problems. Since the legislature no longer insists on a permanently installed lighting system with a dynamo, the Dynamics can be converted into a road traffic compliant everyday bike, and here too it has proven itself due to its robust design. The suspension fork irons curbs and potholes smooth, and thanks to the agile steering, you can meander through city traffic with a light hand. When accelerating at traffic lights, the locking function of the suspension fork proves its worth.

Mudguards and luggage racks can be retrofitted
The standard Fidlock bottle cage is compatible with the practical MonkeyLink bottles
The Suntour suspension fork absorbs a lot of bumps in almost any terrain.

What do you have to do without if you decide to buy a 600 euro bike?

Expensive bikes are primarily lighter and more functionally equipped in some respects – but that doesn’t have to affect beginners or occasional riders. The technical features of the Dynamics Gravity 29 are impressive all round, and with the right amount of care you should be able to enjoy the attractively priced bike for a long time.
