Cycling: Mario Vogt (Sapura Cycling) won the Tour de Iskandar Johor. The 27-year-old German did not finish in the top 3 at any of the three stages in Malaysia. But in the overall standings, he is at the top of the podium because of the most consistent performance.
Mario Vogt is in good form in 2019
The Tour de Iskandar Johor led the participating riders in Malaysia over three stages. At the start, 122,9 kilometers had to be covered from Iskandar Puteri to Batupahat. Mario Vogt (Sapura Cycling) sprinted to finish eighth as Canadian Ryan Roth (X-Speed United) won as his team’s second-best rider. He lost 17 seconds on the first three. However, this shouldn't stop him from taking the leader's jersey on the second leg. On the 172,4-kilometer course from Muar to Yong Peng, he finished Rnag four. The stage win went to his Moldovan teammate Cristian Raileanu. On the 107,7 kilometer final stage from Kluang to Johor Bahru, Mario Vogt didn't let the overall leader's jersey be snatched away from him. With a lead of two seconds, he saved himself from the Japanese Kohei Uchima (UKYO). The German continues to be in good form after finishing third in the prologue of the Tour de Tochigi in March.
