Cycling: Dylan Groenewegen (Jumbo – Visma) has won the fifth and final stage of the Tour of Valencia. The Dutchman was able to prevail in the mass sprint just ahead of Alexander Kristoff (UAE Team Emirates) and Matteo Trentin (Mitchelton - Scott).
Groenewegen stage winner, Izagirre overall winner
As expected, there were no more changes in the overall standings on the final stage of the Tour of Valencia, which was only 88,5 kilometers long. The Spaniard Ion Izagirre (Astana) thus wins the tour ahead of his two compatriots Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) and Pello Bilbao (Astana). The day's victory was awarded in a mass sprint, with the field shrinking to around 20 men due to a fall in the last kilometer. However, the top sprinters were all represented at the front, so that there was still a sprint worth seeing. In the last few meters, Dylan Groenewegen (Jumbo – Visma) was able to push past his competitors Alexander Kristoff (UAE Team Emirates) and Matteo Trentin (Mitchelton – Scott) on the right-hand side of the lane. This is tantamount to his first win of the season.
