E-Performance: The Swiss manufacturer BMC is now presenting two new E-MTBs with 130mm spring travel, 29-inch tires and aluminum frames. These are the BMC Speedfox AMO Four and the BMC Speedfox AMP Five. These two electrically assisted trail mountain bikes use a brand new, extremely light aluminum frame that is said to be the perfect combination of durability and versatility. But what exactly is behind it?
"Thanks to advances in hydroforming technology, we were able to develop a lightweight aluminum frame for the new Speedfox AMP," explains Antoine Lyard, MTB product manager at BMC. “This development makes amplified driving, as we envision it, accessible to even more drivers. State-of-the-art hydroforming capabilities ensure seamless battery integration, sharp handling and a refined, premium BMC look.”
BMC Speedfox AMP with further developed "Big Wheel" concept
With 29 inches and 130mm of travel at the front and rear, the Speedfox AMP should offer unique trail riding pleasure and at the same time convincing climbing properties. BMC relies on a further developed "Big Wheel" concept and a comprehensively adapted selection of components, which in combination are intended to enhance high-speed handling and control in technical terrain. The e-MTB-tuned APS suspension is engineered to be super efficient when climbing, yet supple and fully active on singletrack descents to deliver the on-trail performance that BMC mountain bikes are known for.
The secret of the "Big Wheel" concept is the long reach in combination with the short chain stay. This further improves the natural riding characteristics of the 29-inch wheels, increases stability and makes the bike appear significantly more agile. In addition, BMC has lowered the bottom bracket a bit for a lower center of gravity. All these features lead to the driving characteristics you are used to from BMC.
BMC Speedfox AMP with Shimano STEPS E7000
Efficient and quiet, the Shimano STEPS E7000 drive takes you comfortably to every mountain peak and trail entry. The driving characteristics are by no means ignored. Whether it's difficult cornering, flowing trails or technical passages, the low center of gravity and low weight should ensure intuitive handling of the Trail E-MTB. The motor engages gently and then develops its full power. The level of support can be individually selected according to the driver's wishes.
The BMC Speedfox AMP also looks good. The look of the battery and the drive integrates very well into the unobtrusive aluminum frame design. The speed sensor on the rear wheel is also integrated into the frame in such a way that the wheel can be easily removed and installed. The protective covers cast into the frame reduce disruptive noise as much as possible.
BMC Speedfox AMP with proven APS suspension
BMC engineers tailored the Advanced Pivot System (APS) suspension for e-MTBs and applied it to the new aluminum Speedfox AMPs. The recalculation of the APS kinematics, the pivot positioning and the lever ratios in combination with an e-specific damper tune gives the Speedfox AMP FOUR and FIVE their trail bike attitude.
The new BMC Speedfox AMP Four and Five models are available in sizes S, M and L.
