Cycling: It's a bitter rejection. But Tony Martin (Katusha-Alpecin) has no other choice. The 33-year-old cannot take part in the Deutschland Tour at the end of August.
Tony Martin has to postpone comeback
Tony Martin fell on the eighth stage of the Tour de France. The German sustained a vertebral fracture and had to leave the Tour of France early – before the very important section to Roubaix. As if this news wasn't bitter enough, the 33-year-old is now accompanied by another. As he has now announced himself, he has to postpone his comeback. He will miss the Germany tour at the end of August.
"It hurts me a lot that I can't be there. But I didn't discuss much at all and accepted the advice. It would be fatal if I fell onto my back again and then damaged more than just the vertebral body.”
Tony Martin can train again
At least Tony Martin had something positive to report despite the negative news. Even if he had to cancel his comeback at the Deutschland Tour, he is now back on his racing bike. While his doctors are still advising him against racing, he has been given the green light to train. However, it is still uncertain when he will actually be able to make his comeback in racing.
"I'm back on the bike again and I've got clearance from the doctors to be able to train on the road again. I tortured myself for four days with our team osteopath in Munich. Of course, I also have some homework to continue working on my stability. So I'm in good spirits for my comeback."
