Germany Tour #2: Gregor Mühlberger wins as a soloist in Winterberg

August 25, 2023 by Michael Behringer

Mühlberger Germany Tour

Cycling: Gregor Mühlberger won the second stage of the Deutschland Tour. The Austrian champion crossed the finish line as a soloist in Winterberg. In the red jersey, Ilan Van Wilder was able to extend his overall lead somewhat.

Mühlberger WINS after a clever attack

When it came to the bonus seconds at the top of the Altastenberg, it was Gregor Muehlberger (Movistar) attentive. He left the credits to the competition, but then attacked himself. Only Florian Stork (DSM – Firmenich) stayed on his rear wheel. However, when things went uphill again and the Austrian champion pushed the pace again, the German also had to give up. Mühlberger couldn't be caught anymore, while the peloton behind him was thinning out more and more. Because the soloist was already a long way behind in the overall standings, they probably didn't follow him with all the consequences. The Spaniard Alex Aranburu (Movistar) made the one-two in Winterberg perfect for his team. Third place in the sprint of the pursuers went to the American Kevin Marks (DSM - Firmenich). In the overall standings Ilan Van Wilder (Soudal - Quick-Step) extend his lead by two seconds by winning the bonus sprint.
