Product news: OPENxOMATA: Limited gravel bike with the world's first bicycle chronograph

July 6, 2018 by the editorial office

Product news: OPEN. A bicycle manufacturer, small and exclusive and focused on the essentials: building bicycles and customer service. OPEN builds exactly the bikes that OPEN employees want to ride. Elegant and simple, well thought out down to the last detail. This is exactly why the bicycles should not be over-technological. It's not about having a power meter and as much shift range as possible, because it's really all about one thing: riding a bike.

On the OPEN website you will only find three bikes or three frame sets to buy directly. The ONE+ for cross-country and marathon use, the UP as a gravel bike frame and the super-light offshoot called UPPER. A limited complete bike called OPENxENVE Limited Edition sneaks in between the various frame sets. A gravel bike peppered with premium components from ENVE.

Clear silhouette and noble components.

The latest hit at Eurobike 2018 is called OPENxOMATA. A complete gravel bike based on the UP frame set is limited to 20 pieces. The special thing about this complete bike is the cooperation with OMATA, a Finnish manufacturer of a bicycle computer, which is just as simple and exclusive as the OPEN bikes.

OPENxOMATA: The world's first bicycle chronograph

The world's first bicycle chronograph.

Just as a high-quality chronograph fascinates and captivates people with its own aesthetics, OMATA also impresses. The world's first bicycle chronograph is a mixture of two worlds, digital and analogue, electric and mechanical, modern and classic. Handcrafted in Finland and developed together with SEIKO, OMATA oozes elegance and precision. The dial provides all the key information about your ride and also spurs you on, because if you move, it moves.

Perfect integration in the cockpit.

From a technical point of view, OMATA translates the GPS signal and sensor data into a mechanical movement, so the faster you pedal, the higher the needle climbs. This unique feeling, the connection between physical exertion and mechanical movement, is difficult to describe. However, anyone who has ever used OMATA will quickly understand it. In order to meet all modern requirements, OMATA distinguishes between data that is required during the journey and information that is used for follow-up. Services such as Strava can also be used in conjunction with the OMATA Utility App.

OPENxOMATA: Simple elegance

The overall impression of the gravel bike, which is limited to 20 pieces, is outstanding, because every detail was really taken into account when constructing the carbon racer. In this way, all cables disappear into the frame as soon as possible and emerge again at exactly the required point. Even on the fork, the cable routing has been moved internally. Drive and brakes come from SRAM, the FORCE 1 components combine shifters and hydraulic disc brakes in one. The 11-speed cassette also has enough bandwidth for cyclocross use. The wheels, like the frame, are made of carbon and bear the ENVE logo, the crank comes from praxisworks.

Internal cable routing even at the fork.
The bike is limited to 20 pieces, the serial number is on the rear.
Noble Praxisworks crank.

In summary, the OPENxOMATA is a high-tech bike with a penchant for minimalism. High-quality components with an eye for detail complete this rare gem. And similar to other limited complete bikes from OPEN, this bike will also be sold out within a few days.
