Cycling: Team BMC gave the competition no chance at the start of the Tour de Suisse. In the 18,3-kilometer team time trial, Richie Porte's team relegated the German team Sunweb to second place with a 20-second advantage.
BMC is racing away from everyone
Today, at the start of the Tour de Suisse, an 18,3-kilometer team time trial had to be completed around Frauenfeld. The BMC team lived up to their role as favourites. Richie Porte, Stefan Küng, Simon Gerrans, Alessandro De Marchi, Michael Schär, Greg Van Avermaet and Tejay Van Garderen didn't give the competition the slightest chance. In the end the clock stopped at 20:18, which means an average speed of 53,2 KMH. The German team Sunweb drove to an excellent second place, but was 20 seconds behind with no chance of winning the day. Bora-hansgrohe finished 27 seconds behind Quick-Step Floors in fourth place at the same time.
Küng first wearer of the yellow jersey
Jakob Fuglsang has to put up with a rough gossip. The Dane finished penultimate with his team Astana. In the overall ranking he is already 1:18 behind leader Stefan Küng - and also behind Richie Porte. Tomorrow the Tour de Suisse continues directly in Frauenfeld with start and finish. The wavy profile should make the hunt for the breakaways exciting and offer Peter Sagan (Bora-hansgrohe) a good chance of the next stage win in Switzerland.
