Cycling: Stefan Küng won the start of the Tour de Suisse. The Swiss triumphed in Frauenfeld in front of his compatriot Stefan Bissegger.
Küng wears yellow tomorrow
The clock stopped after 12 minutes. Stefan Kung (Groupama – FDJ) has lived up to its role as favorite at the start of the Tour de Suisse. The European champion in time trials left his fellow countryman on the 10,9 kilometer course Stephen Bissegger (EF – Nippo) behind by four seconds. The Swiss celebrate a double victory in their home country and naturally lead the overall standings. The Italian was third in the stage Mattia Cattaneo (Deceuninck - Quick Step). Unfortunately, it rained at times, so that some pros had to contend with slightly worse conditions.
Alaphilippe in good early form
The Tour de Suisse has always been considered good preparation for the Tour de France. Year after year, the later winners are already in top form here. So too Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck - Quick Step). The Frenchman drove a 12:19 in today's opening time trial and thus placed fifth. Best German was Jonas slip (EF- Nippo) in sixth place, one place ahead of his fellow countryman Jannik Steimle (Deceuninck - Quick Step). Maximilian schachmann (Bora – hansgrohe) was twelfth.
