Cycling: At 23, Phil Bauhaus is already one of the best sprinters in Germany. Unfortunately, he will probably not be at the start of the Tour de France. He still has enough to do these weeks: In addition to the German championships, he is - according to some rumors - thinking about a change.
Phil Bauhaus probably not to the Tour de France
A few weeks ago, Team Sunweb published a list of twelve riders shortlisted for the Tour de France. It included not only leader Tom Dumoulin, but also Phil Bauhaus. In the meantime, however, a nomination by Phil Bauhaus seems unlikely, since Tom Dumoulin has given his firm commitment. Now Team Sunweb is building more of a team for the mountains and the general classification. There could therefore be no more room for sprinter Phil Bauhaus. Most recently, the strong German sprinter was no longer able to draw attention to himself with good results. After his impressive stage win at the Abu Dhabi Tour, he failed to finish Paris-Nice, E3 Harelbeke, Dwars door Vlaanderen, Eschborn-Frankfurt and the Tour des Fjords. There was also no top result at the Critérium du Dauphiné because he - like almost the entire team - caught a virus. There are increasing signs that the German team Sunweb is building on Nikias Arndt and Michael Matthews for the Tour de France on the flat.
Become German champion and then switch?
The German Championships will take place in Einhausen on July 1st. As a German team, Team Sunweb will of course be able to compete with a strong squad. In addition to Phil Bauhaus, Nikias Arndt, Maximilian Walscheid, Johannes Fröhlinger and Simon Geschke were nominated. There is probably no clear captain, but if there is a sprint finish, the first three will have to agree. The fact that Team Sunweb might not be counting on Phil Bauhaus could be related to current rumours. According to international media reports, he is on the Bahrain-Merida list. However, he is not the only one. Teammate Mike Teunissen is also said to be signed, as are Rohan Dennis and Wout Van Aert. Phil Bauhaus shouldn't be bored even without taking part in the Tour de France in the summer.
