Zwift – What is actually Watopia?
For those who have never heard of Zwift, we have a large info article below. In principle, it's very simple: Each user has their own virtual avatar, with which they travel on the fictional Pacific island of Watopia or on real routes in London and Richmond. In order to make the driving experience as realistic as possible, Zwift should be able to be connected to your own roller trainer. The virtual slope makes the real thighs burn and the real watts are converted into virtual km/h. The easiest way to do this is with a so-called smart trainer. However, this solution is quite expensive and therefore not attractive for everyone. Alternatively, Zwift also works with classic roller trainers and a corresponding power or speed meter. Doesn't sound like much different than normal roller training, but it is. Not only can you enjoy "real routes", but the special attraction of Zwift lies in the fact that it is more or less a multiplayer game. Not every user drives their own copy of Watopia, but all users around the world drive their avatars over the same island.
For example, you can meet up with your buddies for a training session after work. Regardless of the daylight, the weather and the respective locations of the users. Public events in the Zwift world also invite you to go on a training trip with other users from all over the world. Anyone who is now more interested in Zwift can try it out at Keller Sports in Munich from today.
