Cycling: While the professionals are slowly but surely preparing for the Tour of France this year, the Grand Départ for the Tour de France 2020 has already been announced. On June 27th the 107th Tour de France will start in Nice.
Nice is a major city at the heart of French cycling
One day after the Paris-Nice long-distance trip, the Tour de France organizers announced that the Grand Départ of the 2020 Tour de France will take place in Nice. The metropolis on the Côte d'Azur has not had the great honor for the first time. The Grand Départ was already in Nice in 1981. A team time trial was last held in Nice in 2013.
tour director Christian Prudhomme:
“The recent Paris-Nice staging has shown us that the diversity of landscapes in this region makes for excitement and exciting cycling. This is exactly what we want to do to give the 2020 Tour de France a dynamic tone. In Nice we know that a friendly atmosphere full of enthusiasm for cycling will await the teams for almost a week.”
mayor Christian Estrosi:
“Seven years after we hosted the 2013th edition and nearly 100 spectators in 100.000, this is another step towards making Nice a key city for major sporting events. We will offer the organizers and teams an optimal framework.”
