Tour de France #1 Preview: Who is racing into the yellow in the Copenhagen time trial?

June 30, 2022 by Michael Behringer

Tour de France Time Trial Copenhagen

Cycling: The Tour de France 2022 starts tomorrow, Friday, with a time trial in Copenhagen. Who wins the start and takes the yellow jersey?

Tour de France 2022 stages

13,2 kilometers in the fight against the clock

For the first time in the history of the Tour de France, the professionals are guests in Denmark. The mood at the Grand Départ in Copenhagen is great, as we saw at the team presentation on Wednesday evening. But things get serious on Friday. 13,2 kilometers have to be completed in a fight against the clock, passing numerous sights in the Danish capital. Due to its sharp curves and narrow passages, the flat course not only requires good knowledge of the route, but also high technical skills. Without a doubt, only a real time trial specialist will be able to conquer the day's victory and the yellow jersey.

Ganna Tirreno Adriatico Wout van Aert Tour de France

Velomotion Prognosis: Ganna will be unbeatable

At 16:00 p.m., the first professional will roll off the starting ramp in Copenhagen, officially opening the 2022 Tour de France. Then three exciting and exhausting weeks begin. The first day is probably the most relaxed, as only a few drivers can calculate the chances of winning the day anyway. Top favorite and therefore our first choice is Weltmeister Philippo Ganna. The Italian is unbeatable in a time trial when he's on form and nothing unforeseen happens. The Swiss are likely to be his most dangerous challengers Stephen Bissegger and Stefan Kung be, as well as the Belgian Wout van Aert, who can do everything. But also Mathieu van der Poel is not to be underestimated, who knows how to use interesting street circuits and dangerous corners to his advantage. Nor would it be surprising if a Dane surpassed himself and made a sensational finish in the top five.

☆☆☆ Filippo Gana (Ineos Grenadiers)
☆ ☆ wout van aert (Jumbo – Visma), Stefan Kung (Groupama – FDJ)
☆ Stephen Bissegger (EF Education – EasyPost), Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin – Deceuninck), Kasper Asgreen (Quick Step Alpha Vinyl)
