Today's Tour of Oman covered 179,5 kilometers from the German University of Technology to the Wadi Dayqah Dam. With Loic Chetout (Cofidis), Xandro Meurisse (Wanty Groupe Gobert), Wouter Wippert (Roompot-Nederlandse Loterij) and Nicholas Schultz (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) four escapees dominated the race. However, about 20 kilometers from the finish, their excursion was already over. At the Wadi Dayqah Dam we went uphill for the last few kilometers. Team BMC controlled the peloton, knowing full well that captain greg van avermaet such an uphill finish lies. The Belgian completed the great teamwork in typical fashion with three seconds left Rui Costa and Alexey Lutsenko. As a result, Van Avermaet also takes the lead in the overall standings.
