cycling: Sharjah Tour #4: Mareczko with second win, Moreno overall winner

27 January 2018 by Michael Behringer

Mareczko Sharjah Tour

Cycling: Jakub Mareczko (Wilier Triestina-Selle Italia) was able to outperform Bryan Coquard (Vital Concept) again at the Sharjah Tour. The Italian was the fastest in the sprint on the final circuit. Overall victory went to Javier Moreno (Delko Marseille Provence KTM). The Spaniard was able to break away with three other riders yesterday and take the leader's jersey. Today he saved a narrow lead over the finish line. He almost had to give up the lead...

Mareczko again faster than Coquard

The fourth stage of the Sharjah Tour took the riders just 99,1 kilometers. However, this route had to be completed within a circuit. Ten laps of 9,91 kilometers each had to be covered on a flat profile. Made for the sprinters. So it was not surprising that the respective teams actually had everything under control and were able to control the pace throughout the entire stage. In the end, a group of only 29 men sprinted. The two professionals dueled Jakub Mareczko (Wilier Triestina-Selle Italia) from Italy and Bryan coquard (Vital Concept) from France. As already on the second leg of Sharjah Tour Mareczko had the faster legs. This time Coquard went into the wind early and wanted to win the sprint from the front. However, the Italian overtook him shortly before the finish line.

Javier Moreno saves the overall victory by a hair's breadth

The overall victory left Javier Moreno (Delko Marseille Provence KTM) no longer take. The Spaniard snapped up the leader's jersey on yesterday's third stage of the Sharjah Tour. But he almost lost the leader's jersey today. In fact, he finished 20 seconds behind the winner in a trailing group. Only three seconds remained of his lead over the French Thomas Lebas (Kinan Cycling Team) left. The decisive stage yesterday won with the Kenyan Salim kipkemboi sensational a man of the German team Bike Aid. The Sharjah Tour ended Kipkemboi in fourth place overall. Nicodemus Holler was 22nd. His teammate was also strong in the sprint today Lucas Carstensen. The 23-year-old raced to ninth place on this hectic stage. The tour can be described as very successful for the German Continental Team Bike Aid.
