Product news: The e-bike boom of recent years has been both a blessing and a curse for the bicycle industry. There is no doubt that most manufacturers are benefiting from the strong sales figures in the e-bike segment, but these are also at the expense of sales of non-motorized bikes. This applies equally to sporty bikes and everyday companions. A look at the country's cycle paths, whether in the city or in the country, is enough to see that in the classic trekking sector there is still more than enough demand for bikes without motors and batteries.
In particular, those who are looking for a reliable companion for everyday life and shorter or longer trips, but do not want to spend more than €1.500, often buy a trekking bike. The Corratec trekking bikes 2018 are also located in this price range - in addition to well-known models, there are also new ones in the range under €1.000.
Corratec trekking bikes 2018: Corratec C29 trekking
The Corratec C29 is an old friend from previous years. At first glance, it doesn't look all that different from the majority of trekking bikes on the market. However, its special feature is already in the model name. Instead of the usual 28″ wheels and tires, Corratec uses 29″ mountain bikes for the C29. To avoid misunderstandings at this point: The size of the wheels is the same for 28″ and 29″, the difference lies in the tires. To put it simply, a tire width of 50mm or 2″ is referred to as 29″ wheels.
On mountain bikes, the wide tires primarily serve the purpose of building up as much grip as possible. In the case of the C29, however, comfort is more important; the thick skins have more volume, can therefore be ridden with less pressure and absorb vibrations and impacts much better than their narrower counterparts. Sure, the rolling resistance is slightly higher, but who wants to set speed records or best times with a trekking bike? In addition, Corratec saves the suspension fork in the C29 without having to accept too much loss of comfort. On the other hand, the rigid forks are fundamentally lighter and easier to maintain than most suspension forks in the trekking sector.
In 2018, the Corratec C29 will be available in three configurations for prices starting at €999. The entry-level model comes with a 3×9 Shimano Alivio gear system, hydraulic disc brakes from Tektro and LED lighting. For €300 more you can get a 3×10 XT drivetrain and M315 disc brakes from Shimano. Finally, the top model for just under €1.600 comes with an Alfine 11 hub gear. All equipment variants are available with a classic diamond or trapezoidal frame.

Corratec trekking bikes 2018: Corratec Sunset
The Corratec Sunset is more classic than the C29 – narrow tires, a suspension fork and an attractive price. The Sunset is very well equipped with a 3×10 Shimano XT drive, hydraulic disc brakes, the aforementioned suspension fork and a suspension seat post. Of course, lighting, mudguards and luggage racks should not be missing either. At €999, the Sunset, which is available with a diamond frame and a trapezoid frame, is also extremely attractively priced.
Corratec trekking bikes 2018: Corratec Harmony
The Harmony is the affordable entry into the world of trekking bikes at Corratec. Suspension forks, disc brakes and full equipment are available for just under €700. The fact that you have to make some compromises in terms of weight with an Acera drive shouldn't matter too much. As with the Sunset, you can choose between a diamond frame with a horizontal top tube or a trapezoidal frame with a low step-through.
Corratec 8 speed
The Corratec 8-Speed is something like the evergreen among the trekking bikes from Raubling. No wonder: the overall package of 8-speed Nexus hub gears, suspension fork and harmonious look for less than €800 is attractive. In contrast to the other Corratec trekking bikes, the 8-speed does not have disc brakes. Advantage: Lighter, cheaper and for many cyclists simply more familiar. Disadvantage: You have to make small compromises when it comes to dosing and braking power. In addition to a diamond frame, the 8-Speed is also available as a stylish step-through bike.
