Cycling: Victory for Marcel Kittel (Quick-Step Floors) in the Tour de France. This is nothing new. Because the German celebrated his fifth stage win at this year's Tour of France. Second was Dylan Groenewegen (LottoNL-Jumbo) ahead of Edvald Boasson Hagen (Dimension Data). There were no changes in the overall standings.
Many falls - task of Dario Cataldo
The eleventh stage of the Tour de France took the peloton over 203,5 kilometers from Eymet to Pau. A stage of the Tour of France ended there for the 59th time today. However, Dario Cataldo (Astana) did not arrive on his bike in Pau because the Italian had to retire after a fall. Besides him, many other riders had fallen, including Arthur Vichot (FDJ), Sonny Colbrelli (Bahrain Merida), Jakob Fuglsang (Astana), Mathias Frank (Ag2r), Alberto Contador (Trek-Segafredo), John Degenkolb (Trek- Segafredo) and Perrig Quemeneur (Direct Energie). Fortunately, however, they were all able to continue the race.
Strong breakaway trio
As on every stage, riders pulled away right after the start. With Marco Marcato (UAE), Frederik Backaert (Wanty-Groupe Gobert) and Maciej Bodnar (Bora-hansgrohe), a strong trio made off. They secured the sprint classification and the mountain classification. In particular, the teams of Marcel Kittel (Quick-Step Floors) and André Greipel (Lotto Soudal) kept the pace in the peloton high. Fourth place in the intermediate standings went to Alexander Kristoff (Katusha-Alpecin) ahead of Michael Matthews (Sunweb), Marcel Kittel and André Greipel. Matthews was after yesterday tenth stage heavily disappointed with 13th place. But he still doesn't seem to have given up the fight for green.
Bodnar defends himself for a long time - Marcel Kittel cannot be beaten
Maciej Bodnar completed the last few kilometers alone in front of the peloton. Of course, the Pole has secured the red shirt number for tomorrow. But it was just not enough for the stage win. Bodnar was sprinted about 400 meters from the line. Upwind Edvald Boasson Hagen (Dimension Data) could be seen up front but as expected the man in green came forward again. Marcel Kittel easily sprinted past the Norwegian. He took Dylan Groenewegen (LottoNL-Jumbo) with him on the rear wheel and led him to second place. Marcel Kittel sprinted to his fifth stage win at the 2017 Tour de France. It doesn't seem to matter what position Kittel starts the sprint from or how long he sticks his nose in the wind - he always ends up first.
