Cycling: The German championships in road cycling are over. At the weekend in Chemnitz, Tony Martin (Katusha-Alpecin) in the pros and Richard Banusch (LKT Team Brandenburg) received awards in the U23 class in the time trial. But for both of them, their appearance has an aftermath.
Tony Martin has to pay a fine of 2.500 Swiss francs. The reason: He competed in the jersey of his team Katusha-Alpecin and not in the jersey of the world champion. According to the UCI regulations, the world champion is obliged to wear his jersey accordingly.
Richard Banusch is sure to dream of this world champion jersey too. The 18-year-old junior driver was able to celebrate the title of German Champion at the weekend. But today it was announced that something went wrong with the timing. Instead of the original time of 38:01 minutes, Richard Banusch is said to have been on the road for 39:14 minutes. Patrick Haller (rad-net ROSE team) has now been declared the new U23 champion in the time trial.
