Street DM 2020: 2.600 meters of altitude await the men in and around Stuttgart

4 November 2019 by Michael Behringer

Cycling German championship chess man

Cycling: It has been known for months that the German Road Championships will be held in Stuttgart in 2020. Now the BDR has announced the first details. The men have to climb a whopping 203 meters in altitude over 2.600 kilometers.

A demanding profile awaits the pros

At the German Championships this year, cycling did not give a good picture. A venue was found far too late. The organization ended in chaos. Apparently a lesson has been learned from this. Because the route of the German Championship 2020 is already fixed. The men complete a total of 203 kilometers and 2.600 meters in altitude. The German championships will be held from June 19th to 21st in and around Stuttgart. A week before the start of the Tour de France, it's all about the coveted jersey of the national champion, which Maximilian Schachmann (Bora - hansgrohe) is currently allowed to wear on his shoulders.

The Herdweg could decide the German championship

The men's race starts in Korntal-Münchingen. Then a circuit through Hemmingen and Ditzingen has to be ridden seven times before the first finish line on Theodor-Heuss-Straße. The new German champion will be determined on a 10,3 kilometer long final circuit in the center of Stuttgart. Among other things, the up to 14 percent steep Herdweg must be climbed. The women start their road race in Filderstadt-Bernhausen and have to master a total of 120 meters in altitude over a 1.200-kilometer route. The time trials over an undulating 30 kilometers through the Böblingen district begin and end in Öschelbronn.
