Test / Leaderboard: Over the past few weeks and months, we have tested a total of 14 trail bikes in the price range of up to €4.000 for you. From 110mm suspension travel to 150mm, from 27,5″ to Plus to 29″, everything was there - whether the bikes can really keep the big promise of the manufacturers to be the best MTB all-rounders - we'll tell you in our new leaderboard .
There's no question that trail bikes - along with e-MTBs - have been the hot topic on the mountain bike market over the past two years. That's not surprising, because it's exactly this category of bike that probably appeals to most mountain bikers, especially if you don't want to have 3 or 4 wheels for different areas of use. A modern trail bike should climb well thanks to an efficient rear end and a moderately light construction, but at the same time convey a lot of safety on the descent thanks to a modern, enduro-influenced geometry and a potent chassis.
Sounds too good to be true? Well, a trail bike is always a compromise, of course, because compromises have to be made somewhere. That's why a big comparison test like ours is so exciting: Because every manufacturer interprets the trail bike category differently, every development team makes compromises in different areas and so the bikes we tested differ not only in the technical data, but also in character considerably. The suspension travel varies between 110 and 150mm, all wheel sizes are represented and the weight is really everything from just under 12kg to well over 14kg.
In the coming days and weeks we will be publishing detailed individual tests of the bikes we have tested every two days. Each test candidate then sorts itself into our leaderboard and only when the last of the 14 tests has been published do we crown the final test winner. So it's worth checking back regularly - of course we'll also keep you up to date on Facebook.
