Cycling news: A few days after his second World Cup gold in a row, Peter Sagan met those responsible and his future teammates from BORA-hansgrohe for the first time. In addition to getting to know each other, bike and clothing fitting were on the agenda. The first official team meeting, where the season planning is also discussed, will take place on December 13th.
Voices after the first meeting:
Peter Sagan: “I am happy to be here at the first BORA – hansgrohe team meeting. It is an important first step. We have meetings with the athletic directors and I meet my new teammates. We also complete some tests and fittings with our partners here. I'm already looking forward to the 2017 season. This is the start of a new adventure for all of us and I'm sure it will be exciting.”
Ralph Denk (Team Manager): “Peter has actually arrived in our BORA – hansgrohe team. For all of us, this is the first step into a new dimension. I'm proud that we've made it this far as a German team and now have the current world champion in Peter in our ranks. Despite all the hustle and bustle around him, Peter has remained an incredibly likeable boy. Everyone gave him a warm welcome and I think he felt at home with us straight away. This team meeting is the first milestone on a journey together for the next three years.”
Enrico Poitschke (Sports Director): “We haven't set any individual goals or exact race plans yet. First, we wanted to set our goals more generally as a team, while also seeing what goals the riders have set. With the squad that is now available to us, we can go into the new season with confidence. As a team, we have therefore set ourselves the following goals: victory at one of the five monuments, top 5 placings in the overall ranking at 2 Grand Tours, winning the points jersey at the Tour de France and a place among the top 6 teams in the WorldTeam Ranking. These are ambitious goals, but we will work hard to achieve them together with our drivers.”
Lars Teutenberg (Performance Director): “These were important days for our new performance team. Above all, it is about defining the roles and processes, or the contact points with our partners. Then we carried out various fittings with the riders here, clothing, shoes, insoles, saddles, bikes. The focus was not so much on optimization, but rather on collecting a solid database on which we can build. We have already made some adjustments to a few riders, and the new contact points on the saddle and pedals have been set for all of them so that all riders can get used to them in good time for the start of training. The optimization in the area of material and training will be an ongoing process from now on, with the aim of exploiting as much potential as possible that we recognize.”
