Cycling: The Vuelta a Espana 2017 starts in less than two weeks. The first teams are already presenting their squads for this year's Tour of Spain. As in the Tour de France, BORA-hansgrohe will be entering the race with Rafal Majka as captain, while Michael Schwarzmann will also have the opportunity to be the sprint captain. As expected, Peter Sagan is absent from the squad.
Rafal Majka leads the BORA-hansgrohe squad for the 2017 Vuelta. The Polish rider is said to be on the hunt for the red jersey after he had to end the Tour de France injured. Majka gets support from Emanuel Buchmann, among others, who should continue to gain Grand Tour experience. Like last year, Michael Schwarzmann is the fast man for the sprints in the team. The 26-year-old celebrated his Grand Tour premiere at the last Tour of Spain and narrowly missed his first victory on the second day. Maybe it will work this year?

Peter Sagan will not travel to Spain – despite his early and controversial disqualification from the Tour de France. The Slovak is currently in action on the BinckBank Tour, after which he will focus on the Road World Championships in Bergen. On September 24th he would like to complete his World Championship triple there on the difficult course - the Vuelta does not fit into the training program. Leopold König, who is not yet in shape for a three-week tour after long-term knee problems, will also be absent.
"I think we're bringing a balanced team to the start of the Vuelta. Rafal is our man for the general classification, our goal is the top five. But we also want to go for a stage win, and I think there are one or two stages where Emanuel or Patrick will get their chance," comments team boss Ralph Denk on the goals of the team.
