MTB cycling: At the big showdown of the KMC MTB Bundesliga in Titisee-Neustadt on September 18th, Gunn-Rita Dahle-Flesjaa, one of the most successful mountain bikers of all time, will also start the race. However, the Black Forest is not unfamiliar territory for the Norwegian: she started at the World Championships in Kirchzarten back in 1995.
21 years ago, the young Gunn-Rita Dahle started the race at the Mountain Bike World Championships with poor health, followed by a DNF (Did not Finish). Back then she would hardly have believed that she would return to the Black Forest after 21 years as a living legend. The trained journalist has actually won almost everything there is to win over the past two decades. She has ten world champion titles in the cross-country and marathon disciplines, eight European champion titles and one Olympic victory. In addition, there are 29 World Cup victories – also a record!
For the meanwhile 43-year-old there is still no end in sight: In 2017 she not only wants to take part in the World Cup again, but also compete in the time trial at the Road World Championships in Norway. Nevertheless, taking part in the Singer Woods Cup in Titisee-Neustadt is a novelty for the Norwegian: she has never contested a Bundesliga race in the Black Forest before. Unlike the race 21 years ago, there should be no DNF this time. A victory for the model athlete at the KMC MTB Bundesliga finals in Titisee-Neustadt would certainly not come as a big surprise.
