MTB News: The MTB Bundesliga celebrates its overall winners in 2019! Ronja Eibl successfully defended her title, in the men's category Reto Indergand from Switzerland prevailed. Big disappointment for the fans of Ben Zwiehoff: The man from Essen, who was leading up to the final, had to give up after only 200 meters of racing due to migraines.
The MTB-Bundesliga overall standings for the men caused a lot of excitement even before the race. Only two points behind the leading Ben Zwiehoff, the Swiss Reto Indergand ranked second - followed by Matthias Stirnemann, who was only eight points behind the second-placed. Close thing! Ben Zwiehoff felt in top form, but in the final he had to give up after just 200 meters. The reason was a migraine attack that turned the defense of the overall lead into a hopeless endeavor. The other German drivers were also unlucky. Julian Schelb fell on the third lap, Simon Stiebjahn even on the second lap. Stiebjahn was initially able to stay at the top, but his damaged shoe soon caused problems and so he too had to let the top Swiss trio go. The Confederates then decided the race among themselves. Reto Indergand won ahead of Lukas Flückiger and Matthias Stirnemann. For Reto Indergand, the day's win also means overall victory, Ben Zwiehoff ended up in third place behind Matthias Stirnemann in the overall ranking of the MTB Bundesliga.
Ronja Eibl: Victory despite a flat band and a fall
Ronja Eibl won the MTB Bundesliga finals in Titisee-Neustadt in front of Anne Terpstra from the Netherlands, but the 20-year-old made it very exciting at first! At the beginning of the race, the girl from Grosselfingen made a mistake and crashed into the ribbon. No big deal, which fortunately remained without consequences. Together with Anne Terpstra, Ronja Eibl went into the second lap - here there was already a gap of twelve seconds to third-placed Alessandra Keller. After several attempts, Ronja Eibl was finally able to shake off the Dutchwoman and, despite a fall in the final lap, confidently won and thus also the overall victory. At the end of the day, second place in the race and in the overall standings was on Anne Terpstra's cap. Alessandra Keller finished third on the day. In the overall ranking of the MTB Bundesliga, Nadine Rieder is third.
