Olympia / track news: There was no medal on the fourth day of the track competitions at the Olympic Games in Rio. While the Brits go from record to record in the women's four, a Dutchwoman takes gold in the keirin. In the end, Kristina Vogel had to settle for sixth place in the final.
Women's keirin: Elis Ligtlee with gold, unlucky bird
It's a pity - in the women's keirin there was nothing to celebrate for the German athletes this year. Miriam Welte had to admit defeat in the repechage and had to watch in the final how her team sprint partner Kristina Vogel ended up in a disappointing sixth place. It was particularly disappointing because the 25-year-old showed a good race and was definitely on course for a medal. In the fighting sprint, however, the keirin world champion surprisingly had no chance and fell back significantly. Surprisingly, Elis Ligtlee from the Netherlands snatched gold. Silver and Bronze went to Rebecca James and Anna Meares from Great Britain and Australia.
Women's track four: Great Britain unbeatable
The advance praise for the British track athletes was great in the run-up, the pressure - not only from home - was huge. But so far they have lived up to their role as favourites: After Wiggo and Co. had already won gold in the men's world record time, the women followed yesterday evening - also with a world record. They had already broken the previous record in the first round, only to beat the just set time by another full two seconds in the final against the Americans who had no chance.
