Bahn-News: It had become quiet about track Olympic champion Kristina Vogel after her serious accident two months ago. In an interview with the magazine Der Spiegel she now breaks her silence. Unfortunately, her back injuries were so severe that the 27-year-old became paraplegic.
On June 26, the tragic accident happened during a training ride on the Cottbus cycle track: Vogel collided with a young Dutch rider at high speed, crashed heavily and was immediately taken to the clinic. Her severe back injuries were operated on several times there, but it is now clear that the 27-year-old from Erfurt will never be able to walk again. In the interview, she doesn't mince words either: "It sucks, there's no other way to put it.Nevertheless, she tries to come to terms with her new reality as quickly as possible: "I think the quicker you accept a new situation, the easier it is to deal with it." she acts combative.
In the weeks since her accident, fans, companions and teammates have started a fundraiser under the motto #staystrongkristina, which has now raised over €100.000.
Next Wednesday Vogel wants to face the public again at a press conference in Berlin for the first time after her accident in Berlin.
We wish you all the best and a lot of strength for the future.
