General: Olympia: track roundup: sprint gold for Brits, Kluge on track in Omnium

August 15, 2016 by Michael Faiss

Olympia/Bahn-News: The Olympic track competitions are coming to an end and from the BDR's point of view things have been rather modest so far. A bronze medal for Welte/Vogel is the only countable result so far - both the strong team sprint men and Kristina Vogel in the keirin surprisingly got nothing. A glimmer of hope is Roger Kluge's good performance so far in yesterday's Omnium opener. The dominant nation is still the British, who secured their fourth gold medal in the men's sprint.

Sprint men: Fourth gold for Great Britain, Joachim Eilers is fifth

So far it's the British Track Athletes' Games. After two world records for the men's and women's four lanes, the next demonstration of power followed in yesterday's men's sprint final, because with Callum Skinner the later Olympic champion Jason Kenny faced a compatriot. Kenny put up a much better performance and Skinner had to settle for silver on that. Russia's Denis Dmitriev also beat New Zealand's Matthew Glaetzer to secure the remaining spot on the podium. Joachim Eilers was the best German and finished fifth in the end.

Start in the omnium: Kluge promising, Viviani and Cavendish on second and third

Halfway through the Omnium competitions, Roger Kluge is very close to the medal ranks. With a strong second place in the scratch and fourth place in the individual pursuit, even the early elimination in the elimination race could no longer contest fourth place overall. The 30-year-old is currently fourth with 90 points, 16 points behind leading Frenchman Thomas Boudat and Elia Viviani and Mark Cavendish in second and third. Everything is still there!

Today: omnium, omnium, omnium

Today at the Olympic Velodrome is all about the omnium competitions. While the men carry out the remaining disciplines and distribute the medals, today the women also start with scratch, individual pursuit and elimination driving. In addition, the round of 21 in the women's sprint will take place today, where Kristina Vogel will probably have to compete with a strong opponent after her sixth qualifying place yesterday. On TV, ZDF will broadcast from the Velodrom in places, and the competitions will be streamed live online from 00:XNUMX p.m. without interruption.
