Race report by Oliver Nienaber from Team Green'n Fit
The second race for the GCC 1 started in Eschborn on May 2016st. After a short track inspection on the day before the race and a joint evening in Eschborn, everyone was ready for a nice race. Unfortunately, the race day developed into a debacle, at least over the 70 km distance. Our girls beamed all the more over the long distance!
Immediately after the start of the 70 lap, the first attacks came in strong winds, and two drivers from Team Drinkuth-Multipower and Team Freistaat pulled away from the field. After a brief discussion, however, it was clear to us that we should keep calm and wait for the final kilometers. After a good 30 km, the top duo was caught up again. After a bit of calm in the field, two riders pulled away again in the finale, going into the final kilometers with a lead of around 30 seconds. At this point the field had already reduced to around 40 riders and we were very well represented with Tanja, Marco, Christian, Peter, Kai-Uwe, Stefan, Thomas, Dennis, Jonathan and myself.
So everything was set up for a furious finale... Unfortunately, the organizers and the police had other plans for us and misguided us about 3 km before the finish line. When the motorcyclist accompanying the police noticed the mistake, he briefly showed us the full horsepower of his BMW and then left. Due to the preload in the race, no one in our group could follow him, so we then set off on our own to find the finish. Unfortunately, that's how it was with the individual and team placements...
The women's results were much better! The girls really gave it a go, and after the day's win Manuela is driving in the yellow jersey of the leaders in the GCC. Great work!!
Marion also achieved a top result as sixth overall and second in her age group! Unfortunately, Tamara also had an organizational breakdown. Female riders were sorted into the wrong groups and the final result is still open.
Conclusion: Unfortunately, Frankfurt had nothing of a grandiose organization like in Göttingen! For years, the organizer has not managed to organize an appropriate event. Those who aim for economic gain should be able to deliver the promised services. Unfortunately, the organizers' fatal mistakes also have a direct impact on the GCC ranking, which is very annoying for us as drivers, but also for our supporters and sponsors. I'll leave the arrogance and ignorance of those responsible after the race uncommented. I'm still too angry...
