Team Corratec: On Sunday, May 27th, the 25th Amade cycle marathon heralded the start of the 2018 season for many ambitious hobby racing cyclists. More than 700 racing cyclists start and finish within the medieval city walls and thus do full justice to the name of the place.
It all started on Sunday at 7.30 a.m.: 53, 96 or 147 kilometers awaited the participants and offered demanding sporting challenges for both beginners and professionals, also with many tourist attractions through the municipalities of the Salzburger Sportwelt and the neighboring ones
Styria: if you had "time" for it. The corratec team was there with 6 team riders: Johannes Berndl, Tomas Mojares and Martin
Reisner started the 96 km route with 1535 vertical meters. Michael Spögler, Roland Döring and Markus Emmerich took the 147 km route with 2221 vertical meters under their Corratec CCT EVO Team Edition 2019 racers.
After the first race, the team has now fully arrived in "race mode", where the team's internal processes are effective and harmonious at the same time - everything is geared towards the goal of being able to organize a good race: joint arrival on Friday evening, Saturday with cycling-specific athletic training, special warm-up program Approximately 1:30h duration with route exploration on selected route passages that may be decisive for the race, material check, relaxation and "self" massages, team briefing on the race. Focused on the race, on its possibilities and chances and its "job" in teamwork, the team tackled the Amade Cycle Marathon: which, among others, team corratec riders have won several times: 2014 Klaus Steinkeller, 2015 Helmut Trettwer and 2016 Johannes Berndl, who after a year off - newly motivated - was back at the front of the starting grid. The corratec team had worked out a Plan A and a Plan B after the training and the experiences of the last few years. However, with variants, because this race can develop very differently right from the start and can also be decisive for the race.
And that's how it was, as Team corratec Leader describes it in its exciting and instructive review of the race with the title: "Thriller finale at the Amadé Cycle Marathon!!" Everyone from Team corratec was at the front right from the start and after the first climbs. However, in 2018 - having arrived at the top of Ramsau am Dachstein - the field had already split up into several small groups, which were now beginning to chase each other could be and remain that the riders in the following groups acted in such a way, despite all their efforts, that they didn't unnecessarily bring competitors to their own leaders. And at the same time, each driver had to focus on his best possible personal time at the finish, so that the best possible time for the team classification could be achieved on the two routes - where the time of the 3 fastest at the finish counted: Nobody should somehow "weaken" or have other problems receive. Martin Reisner on the 96 km route and Markus Emmerich on the 147 km route were able to do so because of health issues
Reasons do not run their race with their usual performance, unfortunately. But the performance of the two was extremely important for the two team rankings.
From St. Johann im Pongau, a good 40 km from the finish, the thriller finale has already been heralded: with violent attacks and attempts to escape. But in the end, victory and top places were decided in a challenging sprint to the Stadplatz in Radstadt, which is well worth seeing. After a super fast
The descent was in a 90° curve for the last 500 m. The winding route climbed to the finish, with a steep ramp. The last 200 m were cobblestones. And here 2 team corratec drivers won their sprints in an impressive manner: Michael Spögler as
Overall winner – who, as a climber, is not (yet) a proven top sprinter. Roland Döring finished behind him with the big 2nd group and gave his all in a visibly experienced manner, which ultimately earned him the deserved 2nd place in the Masters category.
In retrospect, the Corratec team again managed an all-round effective and successful race, where everyone was able to make their valuable contribution to the finish line, even if it got borderline exhausting at times. The fact that everyone was able to celebrate together again at the lunchtime brunch and at the well-attended award ceremonies on the town square in Radstadt was just nice: And at the same time motivating for the uphill highlight "Glocknerkönig" on June 03.06.2018rd, XNUMX.
