cycling: King of the cycling classics: Alejandro Valverde honored with TROFEO CYCLISSIME 2015

April 25, 2016 by Andrew Waldera

Cycling: Old and new king of cycling classics is Alejandro Valverde! For the third time in a row, the Spaniard was honored by cyclissime.com with the TROFEO CYCLISSIME award, which has existed since 2013. The results of eleven traditional one-day races are evaluated here. The prize was presented in the form of a high-quality chronograph last Saturday.

In order to be able to determine the true king of cycling classics, the results of the following one-day races are included in the ranking: Milano-Sanremo, Gent-Wevelgem, Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix, Amstel Gold Race, Walloon Arrow, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Clasica San Sebastian , Vattenfall Cyclassics, Il Lombardia and Paris Tours.

With 366 points, the Spanish champion clearly prevailed and relegated the Norwegian Alexander Kristoff (276 points) to second place. Greg Van Avermaet from Belgium finished third with 229 points and just 1 point ahead of John Degenkolb. The Spaniard made it onto the podium in four races, twice on the top step.

During a short press conference, the captain of the Movistar team, Alejandro Valverde, was presented with the high-quality mechanical chronograph by Enrico Cavedine and Lukas Ehmann from the “Mühle Glashütte” watch manufacturer. Signed in return by Alejandro Valverde, the original jersey will soon be auctioned off at a charity auction.

Of course, after seven of eleven races it is still exciting to look at the TROFEO CYCLISSIME classification 2016. At the moment, Slovakia's Peter Sagan is leading with 229 points ahead of Sep Vanmarcke from Belgium (162 points) and Italy's Enrico Gasparatto (151 points). Alejandro Valverde is in sixth place with 122 points, unfortunately there are currently no German drivers among the top 25 drivers.
