Eurobike / world premiere: Flyer, the e-bike specialists from Switzerland, had a brand new prototype with them at the Eurobike: The presented S-Pedelec will be part of the new U series ("U" stands for Urban) and will be the heart of the elegant speedster is a mid-mounted motor from Panasonic. We took a close look at the exciting novelty.
The big highlight of the new Flyer bike is its drive from Panasonic, which is not only a completely new development, but has also been specially adapted to Flyer's requirements. The special feature of the engine is its integrated two-speed gearbox: This increases the transmission range of the drive enormously and is completely maintenance-free. Panasonic calls the new development Multi Speed Assist System (MUSASY) and thus has a really hot iron in the fire that sets the drive apart from the competition. If you don't want to shift gears, you also have the option of using the integrated automatic mode, which selects the right gear ratio depending on the level of support, cadence and speed.
The battery has also been specially adapted for Flyers and looks very nice in the minimalist frame, although it is clearly visible. However, the 4Ah battery can be removed and charged in no time at all using the handle on the side. All U-series bikes will be S-Pedelcs and will therefore provide motor support up to 45km/h.
In addition to the drive, Flyer is also very proud of the new FIT system. FIT stands for Flyer Intelligent Technology and describes the integration of market-leading components in one system. What sounds a bit complicated at first is very simple in practice: FIT combines components such as the drive, battery, lighting or bike computer in one system - this means that the respective components can be controlled from one point and act independently of one another.
Part of FIT is also the generously dimensioned 3,5″ color display, which allows four different display modes: info, data, fitness and a combined display. It is operated conveniently via the thumb control, which is also new. This keeps your hands safely on the handlebars, even if you want to briefly change the display mode on the go.
There is no information about the prices yet, but the new U-series should come onto the market in spring 2016. More information can be found on the Flyer website:
