Test: Rose Versand promises a sporty cycling shoe for every day with the ROSE RTS 05 trekking shoe. Does the successful look keep what it promises? The weather of the last few weeks offered ideal conditions for a meaningful test of the ankle-high all-rounder.
The material and workmanship of the ROSE RTS 05 make a good and robust impression: the shoe is well-crafted, the upper consists of PU-coated synthetic leather, combined with sensibly arranged mesh areas. Profile protection edges on the heel and toe ensure that we nod in agreement, as does the entry strap, which makes it easier to put them on. The perforated, sweat-absorbing EVA foam insole can be removed if necessary.
In addition to the lacing, the additional Velcro fastener ensures that the shoe fits securely. Another advantage here is the secure storage of the lace loop. The high-quality equipment of the shoe is also evident here, with loops for the shoelaces and the metal eyelet on the Velcro fastener. The reinforcement in the heel area offers protection and additional support. Useful details that are also reflected in the weight: In size 43, the individual shoe weighs just over 500 grams - without cleats.
Sole with a distinctive profile and powerful grip
The trekking shoe is compatible with SPD MTB pedals, but can also be used without clipless pedals. The cleats are located under a cover that is securely fastened with two screws. So there is no risk of the cover cap getting lost somewhere on the trail if cleats are not installed. The rough profile of the sole offers the rider a secure hold on the pedal and good power transmission even without using cleats.
We were also very impressed by the fit and wearing comfort of the ROSE RTS 05 trekking shoe. Even after hours of touring, the shoe leaves no pressure or chafing marks. The sole offers high cushioning and thus contributes to the high wearing comfort. The shoe can also claim plus points for walking comfort. The good grip of the sole ensures that even slippery passages are no problem.
The shoe is fairly unimpressed by wet and splashing water, at least as far as the upper material is concerned. Unfortunately, when running on soaked floors, water leaked through the cleats of our shoes - the only weakness we could find. Despite long use under the most adverse conditions, the shoe showed no signs of wear or material fatigue after the test.
