Spectrum: The international aid organization World Bicycle Relief, founded in 2005, is launching its Christmas campaign “The Power of Bicycles” this week. All donations received will be doubled by December 31.12.2014, XNUMX and the money will be used to provide bicycles to needy people in rural Africa.
FK Day and his wife Leah Missbach Day founded the organization in 2005 as a result of the tsunami catastrophe and set themselves the goal of equipping people in developing countries with robust cargo bikes and thus providing valuable development aid. For small business owners, the time saved by using a bicycle alone is often fundamental to economic success. Medical staff such as nurses get to where they are needed faster. Last but not least, bicycles are a great opportunity for children and young people - including the orphan Tamara from Zambia, who has been riding one of the coveted bicycles for a year.
Tamara gets to school faster, comes home earlier and doesn't have to cover long distances in the dark. For her, the bicycle is not an economic factor, but it enables her to get an education, which unfortunately is still denied to many children, young people and adults in the poorer regions of Africa.
If you would like more information about the campaign, the organization or the special cargo bike, you should visit the German organization website: www.de.worldbicyclerelief.org
There is also the possibility to finance a tyre, a saddle or even an entire bike with a small donation.
