Erhard Goller has been the voice of German mountain bike racing for twenty years. As the only freelance journalist in the world, he traveled to almost all national and international races and reported on what was happening at the races. On June 14, the 56-year-old suffered a stroke and a cerebral hemorrhage. As a result, his speech center is badly damaged. He can neither articulate himself nor read texts, while he is otherwise perfectly fit, both mentally and physically.
Erhard now needs lengthy speech therapy in which he has to relearn how to speak, write and read. The rehabilitation clinic will be covered by health insurance until August 14, but further therapy is essential for his continued recovery. According to the doctors treating him, Erhard needs special therapy, with which he relearns step by step how to fill letters with meaning and how to use them correctly. This therapy in a rehabilitation clinic specializing in aphasia must be privately financed if the health insurance company no longer supports it. It should last at least four months and should cost around 10.000 euros – per month. In addition to the costs of staying in the clinic, Erhard will certainly have other costs. A fundraiser is intended to help finance the rehabilitation, the donation goal is 60.000 euros. The link to the campaign is www.gofundme.com/f/worte-fur-erhard
