Cycling: Thor Hushovd's controversial autobiography titled Thor gives remarkable insights into the world of cycling and the doping entanglements of the past.
In his new book, Thor Hushovd details a conversation he had with Lance Armstrong in 2011. In the course of this conversation, Armstrong admitted without hesitation that he had doped. Hushovd felt this was no big deal for Armstrong. In the autobiography, the professional, who retired in September, also writes that he believes the UCI deliberately hid Armstrong's positive doping tests from the public at the time in order to protect cycling. Armstrong is that golden calf of sport and a revelation of doping would have been tantamount to a defeat for the corrupt system.
Presenting his autobiography, Hushovd explains why he hasn't gone public with the knowledge he's had since 2011. He saw Lance as a friend and had no reason to take action. At the same time, he emphasizes that criticism should rather be given as to why the anti-doping institutions could not uncover such fraud.
