Cycling: You can be happy in Münster. After numerous innovations in terms of marketing and publicity of the Sparkasse MünsterlandGiro, the professional race is now also becoming more attractive. The UCI upgraded the race.
The management committee of the World Cycling Union UCI announced on the sidelines of the Road World Championships in Ponferrada that the MünsterlandGiro will be allowed to sail under HC status from 2015.
"This is recognition for the commitment of the past few years", says Rainer Bergmann, chief organizer of the race. "We take this award as a compliment as well as a challenge - it is an accolade for the entire region and shows that the work behind our relatively young race is also seen in the world association. At this point, a huge thank you to everyone who has supported the race for years and some of whom have been there from the start. This applies to employees and helpers as well as sponsors and partners. Without them, this jump would never have been possible.”
HC status is the highest possible classification for a non-series bike race UCI World Tour with races like Paris-Roubaix or the Tour de France. In Germany, only the Vattenfall Cyclassics in Hamburg belong to this series.
In the tenth year of its existence, the MünsterlandGiro is now on a par with the classic Around the financial center Eschborn-Frankfurt and the Bayern Rundfahrt, one of the most important preparatory races for the Tour de France.
