Cycling: The UCI has its hands full on the fringes of the Road World Championships in Ponferrada. This also applies with regard to the future handling of doping cases. Only a few days after Roman Kreuziger was acquitted by the Czech federation, the World Cycling Federation announced that national federations will no longer have arbitration powers in doping cases in the future.
In addition to Kreuziger, the case of South African Daryl Impey also caused a stir. This had also been acquitted by his association. With him, too, they were satisfied with the explanation of where the positive finding came from.
A statement from the UCI states: “The UCI will install an independent tribunal to further advance the anti-doping fight. This court will decide on the penalties for drivers who have committed conspicuous actions.”
The arbitral tribunal is scheduled to start its work in 2015. The UCI hopes that this will speed up the decision-making process. In addition, this should relieve the CAS. In recent years, the path of the UCI has often led to the independent sports court after national associations had decided in favor of well-known drivers.
