Triathlon: Escape from Alcatraz is not only a popular subject in movies, but it is deadly serious for some triathletes.
This weekend, too, numerous athletes set out from a ship anchored off Alcatraz to leave the prison island behind as quickly as possible. The American Andy Potts was the best at this. He was the first to climb out of the cold Pacific and left no doubt as the race progressed as to who was the strongest that day. Second place went to Bevan Docherty ahead of Josh Amberger.
Sarah Haskins won the women's race ahead of Ironman World Champion Melinda Carfree. Pleasing from a German point of view: Ricarda Lisk took third place.
