Cycling: Chris Froome (Sky) won the Tour de Romandie with a dominant victory in the final time trial. After 18 kilometers he was one second ahead of time trial world champion Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-QuickStep). Third place went to New Zealander Jesse Sergeant (Trek).
"It's always bitter when you lose a time trial so narrowly", a disappointed Martin commented on his second place at the finish. A driving error had cost him time on the way and thus the win. "I have ... myself [...] steered into a corner that I had judged differently, had to click out to avoid hitting the barrier and crashing.”
As in 2013, Froome also secured overall victory. He relegated Slovenia's Simon Spilak (Katusha), who had started the final stage as the leader, to second by 28 seconds. Third place went to World Champion Rui Costa (Lampre-Merida), who was over a minute behind in the final standings.
