cycling: Tour Méditerranéen #2: Degenkolb also wins in yellow

February 14, 2014 by the editorial office

toured3

John Degenkolb (Giant-Shimano) was able to celebrate again on the second stage of the Tour Méditerranéen. This time he relegated Yannick Martinez (Europcar) and Armindo Fonseca (Bretagne-Seche Environnement) to their places.

On the 170-kilometre-long stage from Cadolive to Rousset, the riders were faced with a first-category climb, the Petit Galibier, just under 25 kilometers from the finish. Fabio Duarte (Colombia) and Cyril Gautier (Europcar) tried to use this. Although the duo managed to gain a lead on the climb, it melted relatively quickly on the descent towards the finish.

Due to the second day's success, Degenkolb continues to lead the overall ranking.
