January 9, 2014 by the editorial team

With the departure of Sam Schultz, who will be racing for Cannondale next season, and the signing of Sergio Mantecón Gutiérrez, the Trek Factory Racing Team is undergoing a transformation. After securing several podium finishes in top-level XC races in 2013, the Spanish Olympian joins Daniel McConnell and Emily Batty on the team. The 29-year-old impressed with a second-place finish at the first World Cup of last year, despite the extremely challenging conditions. His tenacity and immense talent also won over Trek's team manager, Jon Rourke: "Our team consists of ambitious, talented, and above all, young athletes who want to make a name for themselves and possess great potential. Sergio is therefore the perfect addition to our team."

Mantecón himself commented on his move: "With the full support of the Trek Factory Racing Team, I am ideally equipped and absolutely competitive."
