cycling: Superprestige Diegem: Ny's last race in the old outfit

30 December 2013 by the editorial office

nys

For Sven Nys (Crelan-KDL) a new phase of life begins on January XNUMXst, because then the Belgian Cyclocross World Champion will not be riding a Colnago for the first time in his career. After the dissolution of his previous team, he found shelter with the American bike manufacturer Trek. As a thank you for the years of support, Nys wanted to give his sponsor a win as a farewell gift. And he succeeded at the Superprestige Diegem too.

Nys pushed the pace right from the start, surprising the assembled competition. Just a few hundred meters after the start, he had torn a gap to Tom Meeusen (Telenet-Fidea), Niels Albert (BKCP-Powerplus), Zdenek Stybar (Omega Pharma-QuickStep) and Martin Bina (Kwadro-Stannah). Meeusen and Albert managed to establish contact with Nys in the third round. As the race progressed, however, they had to pay tribute to the world champion's increased pace. This is particularly bitter for Albert, after all he could have celebrated a series of five successes with one win. So in the end only third place remained for him. Ahead of him Meeusen crossed the finish line, who could see Nys raising his bike in salute.
