With the XC Junior World Cup introduced in 2009, the UCI wanted to do youth work with excellence. An idea that should not prevail as hoped. While the Junior World Cup was booming in Europe, there were increasing problems filling the starting fields at non-European World Cups. Most of the junior drivers are not in big teams and so there was often a lack of the necessary budget for long trips. The World Cup was therefore canceled - but a series should remain. Without further ado, the world cycling association UCI created the first for the coming year Junior World Series.
This does not have its own overall ranking, but counts in the world rankings. However, one could expect a possible cup rating from the UEC, which was planning a U19 and U23 European Cup anyway. The decision has met with a particularly positive response from drivers, associations and coaches.
The race dates for Europe have now been announced. According to UCI representative Simon Burney, there will also be four races in North America, as well as two in Canada and two in the USA. Four races are also named in South America. The locations in Argentina, Costa Rica, Brazil and Chile have not yet been confirmed.
